Attic
The
attic is one of the most important areas of a home to insulate. According
to the U.S. Department of Energy , up to 45% of a home's energy loss is through
the attic. Canadian homes need an insulation value of R-38 in their attics,
or 12" of fiberglass insulation. Special high-density insulation products
are available for cathedral ceilings.

Exterior Walls
Add significant R-value to the exterior walls by installing
extruded polystyrene insulation. It has an added R-value of R-5 per inch of
product thickness.

Interior Walls - Noise Control
Many homeowners today are adding noise control to their homes for additional
comfort. Workshops, home offices, bathrooms, laundry rooms, bedrooms and recreation
or media rooms all have a need to contain sound within the room and/or
keep unwanted noise out.

Floors - Crawlspace

uninsulated floor above an unheated crawlspace or basement.

Heating and Cooling Ducts

Basement
When insulating a conditioned basement, only the walls should be insulated.
"Conditioned" means the space is heated or cooled by a furnace or air conditioning
unit.
